Lords of Kobol, hear my prayer: Having just heard that the upcoming fourth season of Battlestar Galactica will be the show’s final season, I beseech thee to make this tragic news be not so. And if it must be as it has been prophesied, at least ensure that these final 22 episodes will provide all the action, drama, romance and most importantly, closure, that is humanly (or Cylon-ly) possible.
As an addendum to my most recent post in which I named Battlestar one of the top ten shows you should be catching up on right now, I must now urge you even more strongly to begin watching this show, as this is now your final opportunity to be a part of this one-of-a-kind series while it is still on the air. “This show was always meant to have a beginning, a middle and finally, an end. Over the course of the last year, the story and the characters have been moving strongly toward that end and we’ve decided to listen to those internal voices and conclude the show on our own terms,” stated David Eick and Ronald Moore, the show’s executive producers. Wow, a show whose producers actually care about the creative integrity of the narrative? What a concept!
And get this: Sci-Fi’s Exec VP of Original Programming said, “We respect the producers’ decision to end the series and are proud to have been the home of this groundbreaking show.” It’s one thing to have producers care about the creative integrity of a show, but for the network to throw its full support behind the cancellation of its most popular program for the sake of preserving the narrative’s perfection? Sweet Sassy Molassey! Think about the total difference in the mindset behind this show and some other show you watch. You think the people behind Desperate Housewives give a damn about the narrative integrity of that show? They’ve already locked up that series until 2011, for what would be its seventh season. They don’t care if all the housewives are housegrandmothers by then, as long as they’re still raking in money from it. Think about that next time you’re trying to decide what programs are worthy of your precious eyeballs.
As for Battlestar, there is a 2-hour prequel entitled “Razor” that will be airing this November, so if you can’t get around to watching before then, that could be a cool place to start your Battlestar experience. But obviously, I’m a tradionalist and so I would advocate watching this baby the way it was meant to be watched, in order. Whatever you do, please please watch this series. Don’t let this gem slip away before you get a chance to enjoy the awesomeness that is Battlestar Galactica.
So say we all. (So say we all).

I’ve got to agree with Jonah here. The amazing thing about Battlestar is that non sci-fi aficionados, and even those who have a distaste for fiction of the scientific variety will still enjoy, and possibly love this show. It simply can’t be beat. So say we all.
