Media Maven’s Friday Five – 3/28/08

Another slow week.  Have no fear, as many shows return next week and many more after that!  There is joy on the horizon! At any rate, check out my five media-related observations of the week:

1. This week’s South Park, “Major Boobage,” was funnier (anything involving Gerald Broflovski or Randy Marsh is guaranteed hysterical), more visually interesting (read: super trippy), and sharper than last week’s one-joke pony Britney episode.

2. Battlestar Galactica returns in a week for its final season.  If you want to be part of this special last season, start renting those DVD’s!

3. Once again, there isn’t a single commercial film worth seeing (there’s always a good indie film to be found somewhere) this weekend.  21, a Disney-coated butchering of a story adapted from the excellent book Bringing Down the House, leads this weekend’s sorry pack.  Thank gods for Netflix.

4.  This season of Top Chef is heating up nicely.  That might be the entertaining personalities or the mouth-watering food, but I’m pretty sure its mostly because of Padma Lakshmi’s hotness.

5.  I must admit that I’ve given up on HBO’s In Treatment.  Too demanding of a longterm commitment, not enough return on the investment in the short term.  Anybody out there been able to stick with it all the way to tonight’s finale?

Have a great weekend!
