3 things:
1. Great episode last night. Some real high stakes stuff that affects everyone in a meaningful way = what the show has been missing all season long. The episode was a little short on the comedy side, but high on the drama side and at this point, I’m so desperate for compelling narrative on this show, I don’t care if we only get a couple Nazi jokes thrown our way. So what’s next for Vince & Co? Is the Entourage going to restructure around Drama, the tv star, (who seemingly never needs to work on his television show anymore), Eric, the manager, and Turtle, the restauranteur? Or will Vince get his mojo back?
2. The Indian dude who works at Miller/Gold and represents Josh Harnett — Was the dude who plays Sanjay on Weeds/Jonathan on 30 Rock taken?
3. My 3rd and final Showbizzle scene with Quinn is up now. Again, I’m a little bummed about the way it was edited. The majority of the funny lines, jokes, and banter between our characters was, for no reason I can fathom, cut in the editing room. So what you’ll watch is a bit blander and ordinary than what it could’ve been. But hopefully, you’ll still be able to enjoy it! Check out the scene here.

Hey Jonah,
Thanks for posting your thoughts. I definitely agree that the fact that last night’s entourage had multiple compelling plot lines made it a true joy to watch. We got to see Ari be the super agent we have always known him to be, Dana had her first crisis as a studio head, Vince really isn’t that screwed in the end, since both Dana and John Ellis both like him and Andrew Klein (Gary Cole) is now officially part of Miller-Gold. I don’t doubt that his character will come into his own later this season and next (Gary Cole has confirmed that will be in the upcoming 6th season of the show).
Also, who knew that Turtle’s real name was Sal? I think that was one of the most welcome surprises of the episode, even though it was good to hear about his ambitions of someday opening a restaurant.
I don’t mind the writers not spending time on all major characters in each episode. Quality is always more important than quantity. And this episode proved that.
Bravo Entourage. Bravo.
Yo Solly, thanks for the comment. While I agree with your positive view of the episode, I don’t necessarily agree with your rationale. I don’t think there were multiple plot lines at all– everything and everyone was tied up in a single, all encompassing main story line, and that’s what made the episode so good.
Yes, Ari really switched into super agent mode, and yes, Dana had to put her foot down and dealt with a legit movie crisis, but all of this stuff was in the service of the single storyline involving Vince’s performance in Smoke Jumpers. Everyone had something on the line, and THAT’s why this episode rocked.
As for Andrew Klein, he better come into his own next year because as he is, his character couldn’t seem more bland or pointless. What the hell does he have to do with our boys? Is Turtle going to become a staff writer on a television show?
Speaking of Turtle, I have mixed feelings about his plot line. On the one hand, it’s nice to have one character in the Entourage who’s actually a normal, talentless dude. Here’s a 30 year old homie who has no ambitions or career of his own, and now that he has a smoking hot chick to call him on it, will he make a change? On the other hand, if there was no smoking hot Meadow Soprano, I would have shot myself in the face for having to watch Turtle talk about himself for 8 minutes. And finding out his name was Sal was only slightly cooler than finding out HRG from Heroes name is Noah (and that was not cool at all).
I’d go easy on the bravos, Solly. When it takes you 95% of your season to find a compelling dramatic episode, you’ve got major, major issues as a series. Plus, I’d take a scene about Eric or Drama over scenes about Andrew Klein and Turtle any day, under any circumstance.
So yes, it was good. But don’t let it erase your memories of how crappy this season has really been.
